I would define my decor style as “Modern Grandma “. Therefore, the best choice for me is thrifted home decor. By being picky and assessing the quality of your thrifted items you can find amazing pieces for a fraction of the cost of buying new. Now, I know some people might think it’s weird to smell furniture or pick through random shelves at thrift stores, but I think it’s fun and totally worth it!
When I thrift home decor, I take my time. I check the quality, look for damage, and imagine how something might fit into my space. Older furniture especially catches my eye! So many pieces were made with real hardwood and craftsmanship, not pressed-board, mass-produced furniture that fills most stores today. That means when I bring something home, it’s not just pretty; it’s timeless and built to last.
Thrifted home decor shopping is sustainable. Those pieces I’m rescuing? They may have ended up in a landfill if I didn’t give them a second chance. Choosing second-hand isn’t just about saving money, it’s saving things that are perfectly good and giving them new life.
Pro-Tip: Get Inspired
I love following thrifter home décor accounts on social media. It’s fascinating how others style older pieces in modern homes! And it sparks inspiration and ideas of my own. Simply search “thrifted home” or anything more specific on Pinterest, Instagram or TikTok and you will be sure to find creators that align with your style!
The Balance of Old and New
Sometimes I do buy new, and that’s fine too, but I try to make sure I’m picking quality items that will last and serve my home.
Why I’ll Always Thrift Home Decor
For me, thrifting isn’t about “cheap.” It’s about finding something unique, sustainable, and timeless. And honestly? There’s nothing more satisfying than scoring that perfect piece and knowing it was meant for your home.
Coming Soon! I’ll be sharing a post all about my recent and favourite thrifted finds. Make sure to follow along so you don’t miss it!
